Q.
Venture capital firms: create a list
How can I create a list of venture capital firms by geography, industry, stage, etc?

A.

Capital IQ:

  1. Mouse over Screening, and click Companies.
  2. Find the box labeled Investment/Advisory Firms.  Under it, click Investment Style Managed.
  3. Under Available Items, scroll down and add Venture Capital to Selected Items.  Add to criteria.
  4. Under Company Details, Click on the Geographic Locations.
  5. Search for or browse and select your city or country. Add to criteria.
  6. Select other criteria if desired, and click on Run Search.  (For example, under Investment Criteria/ PE Funds, you will find things like Industries of Interest and Company Stages)
  7. After viewing results, click on Add Display Columns to display other information. Then you can export to Excel.

Preqin:

In Preqin Pro view (vs Classic):

  1. Click Search For from the top menu and select Fund Manager.

  3. Under Strategy, select Venture Capital.  (Or click to expand to select more specific types of venture capital).

  5. Click More Filters to add any additional criteria, such as Sector.  Useful filters in Preqin include estimated dry powder, total amount raised, and ESG/Ethos.

  7. Click Export.

PitchBook:
