Where do I find information on real estate investment trusts (REITs)?

General Background:

National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts: Produces the global and domestic indices for publicly-owned real estate, the national trade association for REITs, and publicly-traded real estate companies.

S&P NetAdvantage: S&P's REIT Industry Survey provides a good overview of real estate investment trusts. Also available under Markets > Industry Survey in Capital IQ.

To screen for REITs or get data on a specific REIT:

Value Line

You can search Value Line in three ways:

  1. Search by Company Name or Symbol using the search box at the top of the screen

or

  1. Click on the Browse Research tab
  2. At the Industry Screens dropdown, select R.E.I.T
  3. Click on a Company Name for more information

or

  1. From the main Dashboard tab, select Fund Advisor Plus under Quick Links
  2. Select the Screener tab
  3. Select Real Estate in the Objective drop-down and add other criteria as desired.

Morningstar Direct:

  1. Select New and Advanced Search.
  2. Select Closed End Fund.
  3. On the next screen at Click Here choose Global Category and in the Value cell choose Real Estate Sector Equity.
  4. Enter other criteria if desired and run the search.

Real Capital Analytics (RCA)

  1. Select Investors
  2. Select Capital Tracker from the left-hand menu bar. Then select Capital Type, then expand the Listed REITS option.
  3. Use the additional screens, Property Type, Property Characteristics, and Geography to narrow results.
